About
About SewingTip
SewingTip publishes sewing guides and articles, a set of free calculators, and a directory of sewing businesses across the United States.
Where the directory comes from
Listings are compiled from public map data, principally the Overture Maps Foundation places dataset, then filtered, classified and deduplicated. We have not visited or called these businesses. Details go out of date: shops move, change hands, and change what work they take in. Treat every listing as a starting point and confirm before you go.
How listings are ordered
Independent businesses are listed first and get their own pages. National chains and big box stores are grouped separately on each city page. Ordering inside a section is by how complete the record is, then alphabetical. Businesses cannot pay to be listed or to rank higher.
Corrections and removals
If a listing is wrong, out of date, or should not be here at all, send us the details through the contact form and we will fix it on the next build. Corrections are free.
The writing
Articles and guides are written for people who sew, at whatever level. Prices quoted are typical ranges rather than quotes, and anything involving your own machine, your own fabric or your own body is a case where a test scrap and a local professional beat an article every time.
